"Sons of Guns" Returns Friday Night on Discovery Channel

After the Sandy Hook shooting, the Discovery Channel canceled American Guns, their show about Gunsmoke Guns.  Sons of Guns, their show about Red Jacket Firearms, was rumored to be on the chopping block also.  Sons of Guns appears to have survived Firearmageddon.  There's a 60 minute show coming up on Friday, this week, at 9 p.m. EST.  Preceeding it is Sons of Guns: Loaded Up, at 8 o'clock, which is another 60 minute show.  The program information on Loaded Up is, "Will, Steph, and Kris visit Las Vegas to demo a gun."  Loaded Up seems to be a one-time special.

In the age of DVRs, is a Friday night timeslot still the kiss of death?  Regardless, I guess there's going to be at least one more season.

Shooting Shows Back on NBC Sports Channel

The NBC Sports channel is airing new episodes of FNH's 3 Gun Nation and Guns & Gear.

Phil Labonte of the metal band All That Remains will be appearing on 3 Gun Nation this season for the shoot technique segments.  They have spiced up the show's soundtrack quite a bit.  The 1st new episode will be on again this Sunday at 7:30 a.m. EST.

The next episode of Guns & Gear is on Monday at 12:30 p.m. EST.  Honestly, the show is a little bit hit or miss (no pun intended).  A lot of the show is the hosts talking up products sold by the sponsors.  Sometimes they have Rob Leatham, or another top shooter, on the show to give shooting tips.  At least it gives you something to watch if you don't get The Outdoor Channel.

Shooting/RKBA Shows on Spike Next Saturday

I was checking out what's on next week, and I happened to notice some new shows on the Spike network next week.

Conceal + Carry = Survive

Before those is Because Lives Depend On It, at 9:30 a.m., but the name of the show and the description given by the Comcast Cable DVR is vague, and I'm not really sure what it's about.  I can't find anything about these shows on the Spike network Website.

UPDATE, 7/18/2010: Conceal + Carry = Survive now called Concealed & Carry School.  Because Lives Depend On It is a self-defense show, and, so far, is the only one to feature a significant amount of shooting.  Although the shows are pretty short, I like the content so far.  I think they are showing shooters, and those concerned with self-defense in a positive way.

Because Lives Depend On It is a tactics show.  This weekend they had Larry Vickers on to show how to work with a pistol and weapon-mounted or hand-held flashlight.  Last week they did drills with 9mm, .45ACP, and .40S&W pistols, and discussed the pros and cons of these calibers for defense.  This show seems to have the most shooting.

Practical Tactical seems to revolve mostly around home defense.  Last weekend they focused on a hi-tech home with a lot of panic room features.  This week they brought in K-9 professionals to talk about the use of a dog for home defense.

Concealed & Carry School is about what it sounds like.  Mostly it is interviews with people that are going to the school.  Why they went, how they felt about it, what they are getting out of it.

UPDATE, 8/21/2010:  Another show added last week, I think.  It's called What If.  Last week it covered the shooting at the Holocost Museum in Washington, D.C..  This week it was a shooting at a restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown.  The show suggests things you might do if you mind yourself in these kinds of situations.

3-Gun TV Show Coming to VS Network

FNH USA (Fabrique National.  You know.  The PS90, SCAR, FiveseveN people) are sponsoring a show to air on the Versus TV Network.  It's a 3-Gun competition show.  The show is scheduled to begin in July of this year.

From what I'm reading in America's First Freedom, the show sounds a lot like the Front Sight Challenge show that aired on Versus a few years ago, but at least it will bring a shooting TV show to those (like me) who can't get The Outdoor Channel.

UPDATE, 8/7/10:  Don't know what happened, but the show is on The Sportsman's Channel, or something like that, not Versus.

Virtual Arsenal on Mythbusters

This week's episode of Mythbusters features a pretty wide assortment of firearms as they test the myth of bulletproofing a car with phonebooks.  It's worth checking the TV listings for repeats of this episode, I'm sure it'll be on a few times this weekend, and maybe next Wednesday.  They pretty much go all out to finally stop the SUV, and deflate the blow-up dolls (yes, really) on the inside.

They also use more explosives to test the movie myth that diving underwater will save you from being injured by an explosion.

Oh, and Kari's back (and still cute after having her baby)!  I believe this is the episode that the photo of Kari with a .50BMG rifle came from, which you may remember if you follow The Firearm Blog.

"Guns In America" TV Editorial

The National Geographic Channel (I get it with digital cable) is rebroadcasting the "Guns In America" episode of their Explorer show on Tuesday at 10p.m. (EST), and probably again at 1a.m. At best, it is balanced. There's some of the usual stuff you get from the major TV networks, but there is coverage of a "gun nut type" that isn't as horrible as it could have been on other networks. There is video footage of the police interviewing Joe Horn, the Texas man who shot and killed the men who were robbing his neighbor's house, and cleared of all charges.

It's an hour long show, check it out if you get the chance.

Re: Root Of All Evil: NRA vs. PETA

Although there was more applause from the audience when asked whether they thought PETA was the Root Of All Evil, Black declared the NRA the Root Of All Evil anyway.

One more comedian that I've lost all respect for.

Root Of All Evil - PETA vs. NRA

On the next episode of Lewis Black's Root Of All Evil, the debate will be between PETA and the NRA. Two comedians will argue which group is the "Root Of All Evil," to be decided by Black.

The show airs on Comedy Central at 10:30p.m. on Wednesday night and 12:30a.m. Wednesday night/Thursday morning (depending on your point of view), Eastern Standard Time. As ususual, "check your local listings for time and channel."

I've thought of Lewis Black as being pretty nonpartisan, but Comedy Central has gotten pretty douchey, at least since Jon Stewart took over The Daily Show.

New Season of Top Gear Starts Tonight

I probably should have posted a bit earlier, but I just plum forgot.

The latest season of the British car magazine TV show starts today on BBC America. If you get the channel, and are at all interested in cars, be sure to check it out. They test out all the latest supercars (and some not-so-super cars), and in every episode, the hosts have some crazy project to do, and hilarity ensues. There is some bashing of America and American cars, though.

The show is on 8 p.m., and then again at 11 p.m. EST, and several times during the weekend.
